Cowboy Tennis Falls in NCAA Second Round

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The 19th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team closed out the team portion of its season on Sunday with a 4-0 loss to No. 6 North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Championship at the North Carolina Regional.

With the setback, OSU concludes its season with a 9-12 mark.

North Carolina took two double contests to grab an early 1-0 lead in the match. UNC's Rinky Hijikata and Nejamin Sigouin bested Mathieu Scaglia and Matisse Bobichon, 6-1. Court two followed shortly, Henrik Korsgaard and Luke Hammond fell to No. 58 Mac Kiger and Simon Soendergaard, 6-3.

Court one was left unfinished with OSU's No. 27 Matej Vocel and Emile Hudd in the midst of a comeback against No. 3 William Blumberg and Brian Cernoch.

In singles action, North Carolina struck first as Simon Soendergaard dealt a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set defeat to Matisse Bobichon on court six. Emile Hudd battled, but ultimately fell to No. 56 Benjamin Sigouin, 6-4, 6-4, to extend the Tar Heel lead to 3-0.

No. 60 Brian Cernoch clinched the match for UNC with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Mathieu Scaglia.

Courts one, two and three were left unfinished when play was decided.

No. 37 Matej Vocel prevailed in the first set on court one against No. 35 William Blumberg, 6-4. However, Blumberg had the upper hand after taking the second and leading in the third, 6-1, 4-2. Court two halted with Henrik Korsgaard and No. 24 Rinky Hijata in the third at 6-3, 1-6, 1-4. Etienne Donnet and Josh Peck stopped play at 7-6(5), 3-2.

The NCAA Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships will be conducted May 23-28 at the UTSA National Campus where Matej Vocel and Emile Hudd will be competing.
