Cowgirl Tennis Eliminated In First Round

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.– The Oklahoma State women's tennis team concluded the team portion of its season on Friday in a 4-2 loss to No. 19 Auburn in the first round of the NCAA Championships at the Tallahassee regional.
OSU finished the season at 11-12 overall and with a 4-4 mark in Big 12 play.
Auburn struck first, earning the doubles point. Carolyn Ansari and Selin Ovunc took down Ayumi Miyamoto and Dariya Detkovskaya, 6-2. Shortly thereafter, the Cowgirl duo of Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Daniella Medvedeva struck back with a convincing victory over Anastasia Astakhova and Yu Chen, 6-4. The doubles point came down to court one where Alana Wolfberg and Lenka Stara left it all out on the court, but came up short, 7-6 (7-5), against Georgie Axon and Adeline Flach
The Tigers earned the first two points in singles with back-to-back victories starting with Carolyn Ansari's defeat of Ayumi Miyamoto, 6-4, 6-1, and Cowgirl Dariya Detkovskaya losing to Georgie Axon, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2.
The Cowgirls fired back with two points of their own, starting with Daniella Medvedeva earning a statement victory in straight sets over Auburn's Anastasia Astakhova, 6-4, 6-3, and Alana Wolfberg taking down Auburn's Yu Chen in commanding fashion, 6-2, 6-4.
OSU trailed 3-2 when Lenka Stara dropped her match in a second-set tiebreaker to Adeline Flach, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Bunyawi Thamchaiwat was up 4-3 in the third set when her match was called. Thamchaiwat and Wolfberg will compete in the NCAA singles championships May 23-28 at the UTSA National campus in Orlando, Florida.
