Cowboy Tennis Set for Big 12 Championship Action

The 18th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team will open postseason play this weekend when it squares off with No. 21 Texas Tech in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Waco, Texas.

The Cowboys finished the regular season 8-10 overall and 1-4 in Big 12 play.

In 2019, the Cowboys produced a memorable quarterfinal victory, dealing a 4-2 upset to No. 7 TCU. Senior Luke Hammond clinched the deciding point, defeating Luc Fomba, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on court five.

The win pushed the Pokes to the semifinal round and a matchup against No. 8 Baylor, which ended OSU's run with a 4-1 victory.Â

Several players return from the team who aided the win against TCU, including Matej Vocel, Emile Hudd, Mathieu Scaglia, Maxim Tybar and Luke Hammond.Â

Senior Matej Vocel has been a leader on the court for OSU, reaching as high as No. 38 in the ITA singles rankings. Vocel tallied six ranked wins on court one for the Cowboys, including a top-20 win against No. 20 Eliot Spizzirri of Texas. Overall, he holds 10-5 mark and 4-2 in conference play.Â
