THE BASICS
With the outdoor season in full swing, the Oklahoma State track and field team looks ahead to a total of three competitions for its athletes in the coming days. To kick off the weekend for the Pokes, a portion of OSU's distance athletes will make their way to Des Moines, Iowa, to compete in the 111th annual Drake Relay.
IN THE POLLS
In the week four installment of the National Track & Field Rating Index from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the Cowgirls slip one spot to No. 3 in the Midwest Region, trading places with inter-conference rival Oklahoma. The Cowboys hold steady in the top 10, currently at No. 9 in the Midwest.
LAST TIME OUT
In last weekend's two-part outdoor meet action, Oklahoma State had athletes compete at the Sooner Invitational at Oklahoma and the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor; it's most notable performances included four program-record performances:
- Kelsey Kehl, a Washington State-transfer junior, earned the event win in the women's javelin at the Sooner Invitational on her way to becoming the greatest Cowgirl performer in the event in school history. Kehl's 47.94m mark ranks first all-time by a Cowgirl and she posted the mark in just her fifth competition as a OSU athlete.
- Within the context of the men's decathlon at the Sooner Invitational, freshman Max Braht exploded for a school record throw in the men's javelin. Nine events into the decathlon, Braht put up a 58.61m throw, enough for the individual event win and the OSU record.
- Cowgirl multis standout Bailey Golden totaled 5,481 points to take the heptathlon event title at the Sooner Invitational. In her first time competing in the collegiate outdoor heptathlon, Golden bested the 15-year-old program record and cemented her name in the Cowgirl history.
- After two grueling days of competition in less-than-glamorous conditions, William Edmonds finished the men's decathlon with 6,830 points, a total that earned him the runner-up finish and the Cowboy all-time record. The junior is now Oklahoma State's all-time best performer in the indoor heptathlon and outdoor decathlon.
