OSU Splits Monday’s Matches, Wins Cowgirl Match Play

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's golf team split a pair of matches against Tulsa and Oklahoma to finish with a 2-1 record at the Cowgirl Match Play.
The Cowgirls, Sooners and Red Raiders all finished the event at 2-1, but after tiebreaking procedures Oklahoma State was named the winner of the Cowgirl Match Play thanks to their 5 ½ individual wins against OU and TTU, which finished with 5 and 4 ½ wins, respectively.
In the morning session, OSU needed a rally from Isabella Fierro to take down Tulsa. The sophomore trailed by two holes after 13, but quickly tied the match. With things knotted up on the final hole, Fierro set her tee shot on the 175-yard par-3 just 5-feet from the pin, then sank her birdie putt to notch the Cowgirl victory, 3-2.
Oklahoma State also got wins from Hailey Jones and Han-Hsuan Yu in the victory over Tulsa. Jones rolled to a 5&3 decision over Tulsa's Titita Loudtragulngam, while Yu defeated Taylor Dobson, 2&1.
The Cowgirls mounted another rally in the afternoon session against Oklahoma, but the Sooners were able to hold it off and scratch out a 3-2 win.
Fierro and Yu both continued their hot play against the Sooners. Fierro notched a 2&1 win over Sooner Maria Fernanda Martinez, while Yu moved to 3-0 in the Cowgirl Match Play with her win over OU"s Libby Winans.
The Cowgirls will now begin postseason play with the Big 12 Championship starting Sunday, April 18 at the Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. OSU is seeking its 10th Big 12 Championship.
