OSU Opens Cowgirl Match Play With Victory Over Texas Tech
April 11, 2021 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER – Junior Lianna Bailey led the No. 7 Oklahoma State women's golf team to a 3-1-1 win over No. 27 Texas Tech in the opening round of the Cowgirl Match Play at Stillwater Country Club.
Bailey, a junior, posted a trio of birdies to grab the first OSU victory of the day, a dominating 5&4 win over Red Raider junior Amy Taylor.
Han-Hsuan Yu entered No. 16 tied with Texas Tech's Gala Dumez, but managed to take the next two holes thanks to a par on No. 16 and a birdie on No. 17 to win the match.
Cowgirl Freshman Rina Tatematsu clinched the team victory for the Cowgirls with a solid 4&3 decision over Anna Dong. Tatematsu birdied her final two holes to put the exclamation point on the win.
Isabella Fierro had a good look at a 12-foot birdie putt on No. 18 that would have earned the sophomore a hard-fought victory over Tech's Sofia Garcia, but the putt wouldn't fall and Fierro's match ended in a tie.
Fellow sophomore Hailey Jones cut what was once a four-hole deficit to Tech's Cecilie Nielsen down to one with three holes to play, but couldn't complete the comeback in a 3&1 loss.
On Monday, the Cowgirls will face No. 54 Tulsa at 8:30 a.m. before taking on rival No. 30 Oklahoma, which took down the Golden Hurricane, 3-1-1 on Sunday. The Phillips 66 Bedlam matchup will tee off at 1:15 p.m. on hole No. 1.
