Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
No. 17/17 Oklahoma State had its five-game winning streak halted by a red-hot No. 3/3 Baylor squad on Thursday night. Now the Cowboys will look to regroup in Morgantown, West Virginia, where they will close the regular season against the No. 6/6 Mountaineers. Saturday's game against WVU can be seen on ESPN2 with Rich Hollenberg and Fran Fraschilla on the call, and fans can listen to Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb on the Cowboy Radio Network.
• Big 12 Tourney Talk
Oklahoma State was picked to finish 7th in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, but can finish as high as the No. 4 seed and no lower than the No. 6 seed for the upcoming Big 12 Championship. OSU's path to the No. 4 seed requires a win over West Virginia and a Texas loss at TCU. OSU drops to the No. 6 slot with a loss to WVU and a Texas Tech win at Baylor.
• Gaudy Resume
The Cowboys are building one of the nation's most impressive NCAA Tournament resumes. Oklahoma State is tied for second nationally with seven N.E.T. Quadrant-1 victories. The Cowboys also own six wins over Associated Press top-25 squads - only Kansas and Iowa have more. OSU's seven road wins are also tied for the most by a power conference team. ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi and CBS Sports' Jerry Palm both see the Cowboys as a No. 4 seed.
• The Series with West Virginia
Oklahoma State and West Virginia have split their last six meetings, including the Mountaineers' 87-84 win in Stillwater last month. WVU leads the overall series, 10-8, but OSU owns a 5-3 record in Morgantown. In 2018-19, the Cowboys earned their first season sweep of the Mountaineers since 2013 and 2014, and coincidentally both games had the same final score, 85-77. WVU returned the favor with a season sweep in 2019-20. The two programs met only once prior to WVU's joining the Big 12 in 2012-13.
• Road Sweet Home
Since 2016-17, the road team in the series between OSU and WVU is 6-2. The Cowboys have won three of their last four games in WVU Coliseum, while the Mountaineers are 6-1 in their last seven games in Stillwater. Oklahoma State (5-3) and Oklahoma (5-4) own the best visiting record of any Big 12 squad in in Morgantown since the Mountaineers joined the league in 2012-13.
• Hall of Famer in Charge
West Virginia is led by legendary head coach Bob Huggins, who has amassed 899 wins in his career. He ranks fourth in total victories among active Division I head coaches and has the sixth-most wins in college basketball history among Division I head coaches.
