Cowboy Tennis Falls to UCF 4-3

Stillwater, Okla. - The 18th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team fell to the Central Florida Knights on Sunday at the Greenwood Tennis Center, 4-2.

With the loss, the Cowboys dipped to 7-6 on the year and a 5-4 record at home.

The Cowboys didn't waste anytime getting started in doubles play. On court two, Dominik Kellovsky and Emile Hudd were the first to finish taking a 6-3 victory over UCF's Gabriel Decamp and Juan Pablo Mazzuchi. However, the Knights answered back with a win on court one. Matej Vocel and Henrik Korsgaard fell to Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel, 6-3.Â

With the doubles point on the line, it came down to OSU's Mathieu Scaglia and Etienne Donnet on court three. A consistent back-and-forth battle against Alan Rubio and Kento Yamada, but the Pokes prevailed with a 7-6 (9) triumph for the Cowboys to move in front, 1-0.Â

It was a dogfight across the board in singles action. Court three was the first to finish with Henrik Korsgaard losing to Juan Pablo Mazzuchi 6-2, 6-1, to even the team score at 1-1. The Knights kept the momentum on their side with Trey Hilderbrand's 6-3, 6-4 win over Dominik Kellovsky.

Etienne Donnet responded for the Cowboys on court six, cruising to a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mihail Sokolovskiy to tie up the match 2-2.Â

It all came down to courts one, two and four with all the courts going into a third set and tiebreakers at some point in each match.Â

Court five was next to finish. After dropping his first set against Kento Yamada, Mathieu Scaglia persevered to win the tiebreaker 7-6(5). However, he fell short in the third set, 6-3, to get the Knights within a point of victory.Â

The match rested on Matej Vocel on court one and Emile Hudd on court two. No. 44 Vocel squared off with No. 4 Gabriel Decamps and didn't let up for the Pokes. Vocel secured a 7-6 (4) victory in the first set, Decamps returned with a 6-3 win for the second. The third set decided the match with Decamps prevailing, 6-4.Â

Court two went unfinished once the match was decided. Hudd battled against Alan Rubio with the score standing at 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-5.

The Cowboys will be back home on April 1 when they open conference play against Baylor.Â
