Stillwater, Okla. – Oklahoma State's 10th-ranked women's tennis team dropped its first match of the ITA Indoor National Championships on Friday afternoon, falling to No. 2 UCLA, 4-0, at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Participating with a limited roster due to COVID protocols, the Cowgirls competed with just four student-athletes against the Bruins.

"I'm extremely proud of the way our girls competed especially under the circumstances," OSU head coach Chris Young said. "I think they made UCLA go out and earn it."

In doubles action, the Cowgirls had to forfeit court three, leaving UCLA in need of only one win on the two remaining courts. The No. 34-ranked duo of Ayumi Miyamoto and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat showed promise, holding a 3-2 lead over Vivian Wolff and Annette Goulak before the doubles point was settled. UCLA's Abbey Forbes and Abi Altick defeated Daniella Medvedeva and Lora Boggs, 6-0, to clinch the point.

OSU hung around in singles action despite having to forfeit two matches. Thamchaiwat went back and forth with UCLA's Elysia Bolton, leading 6-4, 0-1 when the match was called.

Medvedeva led Bruin Abi Altick, 6-5, and Miyamoto was trailing 2-6, 1-1 against Wolff when her match was left unfinished. UCLA's Annette Goulak defeated Lora Boggs, 2-6, 0-6 for the match-clinching point.

The Cowgirls will face the loser of tonight's matchup between No. 3 Texas and No. 13 Northwestern at the Greenwood Tennis Center tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
