Cowgirl Equestrian Set For Season Opener

Meet Notes
The Basics:
The second-ranked Cowgirl equestrian team travels to Fort Worth, Texas to face TCU on Sunday, Feb. 21. Last season, the Cowgirls were 9-3 and looked poised to make a run in the postseason before the season was canceled due to COVID-19.Â
Senior Harley Huff was the Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Year in 2019-20. The team also returns two honorable mention NCEA All-Americans, junior Abigail Brayman and sophomore Sydney North. The Cowgirls bring in 11 new riders to this season's team; ten are freshmen and one is a transfer.Â

The Cowgirls (0-0) are led by 22nd-year head coach Larry Sanchez, second-year assistants Laura Brainard and Olivia Dorey and graduate assistant Caroline Becker.Â
An Oklahoma State Win Would...Â
• Improve the Cowgirls' all-time record against the Frogs to 21-10.Â
• Mark two consecutive years with an opening meet win.Â
• Start the Cowgirls off 1-0 in Big 12 play.Â
Who to Watch:
"I could not be more excited about the depth and maturity of our team this year," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Our senior class has shown great leadership throughout this year, and the entire team cannot wait to compete this weekend."Â
Katie Schell: The returning senior was 6-4 in Equation on the Flat and 2-5 in Equation over Fences last season.
Team Captain Abigail Brayman was 5-1-4 in Equation over Fences and 7-3 in Equation on the Flat.
Harley Huff enters the 2021 season as the reigning Big 12 Rider of the Year after going 7-1-2 last season in Horsemanship.
Sydnee Gemar enters her senior season following a 4-1-4 record in 2019-20.
Team Captain Stephanie Helsen returns for her final year after going 5-1-2 in Reining last season.Â
Team Captain Cassidy Watters looks to have another solid season after going 6-1-3 last year in Horsemanship.
