Cowgirls Fall To Tennessee at South Point Shootout

LAS VEGAS — Oklahoma State's women's basketball closed out play at the South Point Shootout on Saturday with an 80-55 loss at the hands of No. 11 Tennessee inside South Point Arena.
In the first quarter, the Cowgirls got balanced scoring with six different players putting points on the board. OSU trailed 18-16 after the first 10 minutes.
The Lady Vols opened the second on a 7-0 run to extend the margin to nine. Tennessee would go on to score 13 of the first 15 in the quarter to stretch the margin to 31-18 with five minutes left in the half.
In the quarter, the Lady Vols hit 10 of their 14 shot attempts (71.4 percent) and outscored the Cowgirls 26-9, including an 8-0 run to close the half to take a 44-25 lead at the break.
For the half, the Lady Vols hit 62 percent of their shots from the floor, while limiting OSU to a 29 percent effort through the first 20 minutes.
Tennessee continued with the hot hand in the second half, scoring the first eight points of the quarter. The Lady Vols would shoot 57 percent in the period while extending the margin to 67-39 heading into the final period.
The Cowgirls did outscore the Lady Vols, 16-13, in the final stanza.
Sophomore Taylen Collins and junior Lauren Fields each scored 12 points to lead the Cowgirls. Collins connected on five of her six shots from the floor.
Fields was named to the event's all-tournament team following the contest.
