Trevor Mastrogiovanni Selected as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestler Trevor Mastrogiovanni was selected as the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week by league coaches after upsetting No. 5 Patrick McKee in Minneapolis on Saturday night.
The sophomore from Sparta, N.J., got the Cowboys off to a hot start at 125 pounds in their 23-10 victory over No. 11 Minnesota with a 10-6 decision over McKee, who placed third at the NCAA Championships in March. Mastrogiovanni held a 4-3 lead after the first period and separated the score in the second with an escape and a pair of takedowns to extend his lead to 9-4, before sealing the upset in the third period.
This is the first time Mastrogiovanni has won the award in his career and the first time a Cowboy has been named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week since Wyatt Sheets on February 25, 2020.
The win bumped the Cowboy up four spots in Intermat's 125-pound rankings to No. 15 after being No. 19 heading into the bout with McKee.
Mastrogiovanni and the Cowboys will host Drexel in the one and only fall semester dual in Gallagher-Iba Arena Sunday at 2 p.m. on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
