October 27, 2021 | Cowgirl Golf
ATLANTA, Ga. – Top-seeded Oklahoma State won the East Lake Cup defeating third-seeded Duke, 3-2-0, in the match play championship round on Wednesday.
Â
With the win, the Cowgirls concluded their fall season with a perfect 4-0 record with three individual titles, as well. This marked the first time in program history OSU opened a season with four-straight tournament wins. Â
Â
"I think they came off a great summer," head coach Greg Robertson said. "All of them came back and worked hard. We have a competitive team. We've had a lot of competition this fall. They came out firing and we just kind of got out of their way and let them do it."
Â
Isabella Fierro earned the first point of the day for the Cowgirls with a 7-and-6 win over Duke's Phoebe Brinker on the 12th hole.
Â
From there, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, who went undefeated in match play this week, gave OSU its second point with her 3-and-1 victory over Megan Furtney.
Â
Hailey Jones' 2-and-1 victory over Rylie Heflin on the 17th hole secured the championship for the Cowgirls.
Â
Rina Tatematsu fell in her match to Erica Sheperd, 2-up, while Anne Chen won Duke's second point with a 1-up victory over Caley McGinty.
Â
The Cowgirl golf season will resume in the spring at the Match in the Desert on January 22.
