Tatematsu Wins First Day Of East Lake Cup
October 25, 2021 | Cowgirl Golf
ATLANTA, Ga. – Oklahoma State women's golf's Rina Tatematsu earned the individual championship Monday on the first day of the historic East Lake Cup. Tatematsu finished 5-under in the 18-hole championship at the par-72, 6,297-yard layout.
Â
Her round of 67 was highlighted with an eagle on the final hole, which ended up being the lone eagle of the tournament. The victory was the second of her collegiate career.
Â
"It is such an honor to just be able to come here and play at the East Lake Cup with my teammates," Tatematsu said. "I just went and had fun. I know there is so much history in this community and golf course. I'm just thankful for the opportunity to come here."
Â
On the day, the Cowgirls had three top-10 finishers thanks to Tatematsu, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Hailey Jones
Â
"We were very happy with the way they played and competed out there," head coach Greg Robertson said. "Despite some troubles on a couple of holes early, they hung in there and made some birdies coming down the back nine. This is a tough golf course, and you have to be mentally tough for all 18 holes.
Â
"They did that today, and we're looking forward to the next couple of day with match play."
Â
Hinson-Tolchard posted a career-best finish after shooting a 71 to finish tied for second with four birdies. Jones closed out the top-10 for the Cowgirls at 2-over and tied for eighth place.
Â
Caley McGinty and Isabella Fierro rounded out the OSU lineup at 3-over and 4-over, respectively.
Â
The Cowgirls will face off against Arizona in the semifinal round of the team match play championship tomorrow. Tee times will be announced as they become available.
Â
The event will be available on Golf Channel from 3-6 p.m. ET with a live stream available, as well. Score updates will be available on golfstat.com and the team's social media as they become available.
