AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma State had its long unbeaten streak against Texas snapped Sunday at Mike A. Myers Stadium as the Cowgirls dropped a 2-1 contest to the 21st-ranked Longhorns.
OSU entered the match with a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3) against UT, with the last loss coming in 2012 in Austin. With Sunday's loss, the Cowgirls are 8-6-2 on the season and 3-3-1 in Big 12 Conference play.
Texas (9-3-5, 5-0-3) took a lead just 2:17 into the match when Mackenzie McFarland spun her defender and delivered a shot from 12-yards out to the far post to get the Horns on the scoreboard.
It would be McFarland doubling the UT lead in the 54th minute. After an initial shot from close range by Lexi Mossimo was saved by Evie Vitali, McFarland was there to head the rebound attempt into the back of the net to make the score 2-0.
After not managing a shot on goal in the opening half, the Cowgirls proved much more dangerous offensively over the last 45 minutes.
OSU would finally get on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute. Off a Kim Rodriguez corner kick, Grace Yochum delivered a header over UT goalkeeper Savannah Madded to cut the Cowgirls' deficit to 2-1.
Yochum's goal marked the 33rd of her career, leaving her just two shy of tying the program record held by Yolanda Odenyo and Jolene Schweitzer. And with Rodriguez picking up an assist on the play, she moved into third place on OSU's all-time list with the 25th of her career.
The Cowgirls continued to battle for the equalizer and had several near misses down the stretch, including a long blast by Yochum that sailed inches over the crossbar in the 86th minute and a left-footed bomb from Samiah Phiri as time expired that was just wide of the near post.
The final stats were nearly identical as OSU outshot the Horns by an 11-10 margin, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
OSU concludes the regular season Thursday with a road game at West Virginia.
