SAN MARCOS, Texas – No. 1 Oklahoma State women's golf led the field after the opening 36-holes of the Jim West Challenge on Sunday with rounds of 273 and 274 at the Kissing Tree Golf Club. OSU finished 29-under through the first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament at the par-72, 6,287-yard layout.
The Cowgirls will head into the final round with a 10-stroke advantage over TCU and a 14-stroke advantage over Florida State in third place. OSU will be in pursuit of its 102nd team tournament championship tomorrow morning and its third tournament title in as many tries this season.
Caley McGinty paced the field with rounds of 65 and 67 to end the day at 12-under. McGinty finished the day with a tournament-best 14 birdies and will head into Monday two strokes ahead of the third-place individual.
Three Cowgirls finished the day in the top-15 in the individual standings.
"It was a great start for the team to have the low score in each round." head coach Greg Robertson said. "They played some solid golf, and it was nice to see them lead them field in birdies. We just need to come out with the same aggressive mindset and continue doing the same things tomorrow that we did today."
Rina Tatematsu surged in the second round to end the day in a tie for fifth place with rounds of 71 and 68. Isabella Fierro continued her strong fall season performance with a 69 and 67 and sits in fourth place.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Hailey Jones rounded out the Cowgirl starting lineup to finish the day tied for ninth and 52nd place respectively.
Oklahoma State returns to action at 8:30 a.m. on Monday in San Marcos in search of its third team championship.
Tomorrow's 18-holes will be broadcast on ESPN+. Score updates will be provided on golfstat.com and the team's social media as they become available.
