March 09, 2020 | Cowgirl Basketball
IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team had a pair of players honored on Monday with the announcement of the Big 12 Conference's awards by the league office.
Junior Vivian Gray was named a first-team all-league selection, while classmate Natasha Mack was tabbed as a second-team pick, the league's Co-Newcomer of the Year and a member of the Big 12 All-Defensive Team.
For the second consecutive season, Gray was unanimously selected to the 10-player first team. She was one of just three players to be chosen unanimously, joining Baylor's Lauren Cox and Iowa State's Ashley Joens.
Gray's recognition adds to an impressive list of honors that includes being named one of 10 finalists for the Cheryl Miller Award, a member of the Naismith Award Watch List and the Wade Trophy Midseason Watch List. Additionally, she was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Jan. 27 and to the NCAA.com Starting Five that week as well.
The Argyle, Texas native is currently second in the league in scoring (19.3 ppg) and minutes played (27.6 mpg), third in free-throw percentage (84.1 percent), fifth in assist-turnover ratio (1.7), ninth in assists at 3.7 per game, 13th in steals (1.6 spg), 15th in field-goal percentage (36.3 percent) and 15th in blocked shots (0.8 bpg)
With her unanimous selection, Gray gives the Cowgirls eight such all-conference selections since 2013. She joins Brittney Martin (2015, 2016) as the only Cowgirl to receive the honor unanimously more than once. Toni Young (2013), Tiffany Bias (2014), Kaylee Jensen (2018) and Loryn Goodwin (2018) were also among those unanimously selected during that span for OSU.
For the third consecutive year, the Cowgirls had the league's newcomer of the year with junior Natasha Mack sharing the distinction with Baylor's Te'a Cooper. Mack joins Gray (2019) and Loryn Goodwin (2018) as well as Whitney Pegram (2006) and Nina Stone (2004) as Cowgirls to earn the honor.
A native of Lufkin, Texas, Mack wrapped up the regular season as the league's fifth-ranked scorer at 17.6 points per game and its top rebounder at 12.5 boards per contest. Additionally, she ranks third in field-goal percentage (51.6 percent), seventh in steals (1.9 spg) and second with her 3.6 blocks per game. Her 19 double-doubles pace the league.
Mack was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Jan. 6 as well as the USBWA National Player of the Week the following day. She was also tabbed as a member of the week's NCAA.com Starting Five. In November, she was named to the Paradise Jam's All-Tournament Team.
