February 09, 2020 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER - The No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowboys took on the Northwestern Wildcats on Sunday morning in Stillwater, Okla. and picked up a 4-0 victory. This was the second match in three days for the Cowboys after they defeated San Diego on Friday night.
Â
The Cowboys won the doubles point over the Wildcats to get the morning started. No. 45 Matej Vocel and Emile Hudd won the first match of the day in an upset on court one over No. 38 Simen Bratholm and Nick Brookes, 6-2. On court three, Dominik Kellovsky teamed up with freshman Cowboy Etienne Donnet to defeat Steve Forman and Natan Spear, 7-5, which clinched the doubles point for the Cowboys. Brady Draheim and Luke Hammond's match against Chris Ephron and Dominik Stary went unfinished with the Cowboys trailing 5-4 at the time.
Â
"I played with Emile [Hudd] last year, so I've gotten used to playing with him," said Vocel. "Today I think we played our best doubles. We just made everything and won it 6-2. It was a really good doubles for us."
Â
Donnet won the first singles match of the day when he defeated Trice Pickens on court five, 6-3, 6-4, giving the Cowboys a 2-0 advantage. Oklahoma State's second singles point came from No. 110 Dominik Kellovsky as he defeated Steve Forman, 6-3, 7-5, on court two. No. 35 Matej Vocel defeated Dominik Stary, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Cowboys in a 4-0 sweep.
Â
"I knew that I was better all match long," said Kellovsky. "I didn't want to lose that second game of the second set, but I knew that I was better, so I just had to keep playing my game. It's so important for us to finish the match up, so we can help and cheer on our teammates on the other courts. It gives them a lot of confidence."
Â
Sunday's victory moves the Cowboys to 7-2 on the year, with their only losses coming at the hands of No. 18 Columbia and No. 22 Ole Miss. OSU has now swept five of their nine opponents this season and are riding a three-match winning streak. The Cowboys will have next weekend off before they host the Michigan Wolverines on Feb. 21.
