STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State secured a 74-58 win against the Texas Tech Lady Raiders to improve to 15-12 (6-9 Big 12) on the year in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Wednesday night.
The Cowgirls started the game hot from behind the arc, with back-to-back threes from Clitan de Sousa and Ja'Mee Asberry to begin the game. Natasha Mack and de Sousa contributed early in the paint, with seven and six points respectively in the first quarter. Despite a hot offensive start, a 12-2 Texas Tech run over the last half of the opening quarter would give the Lady Raiders a 24-18 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
After an aggressive start to the second quarter to tie the game, the Lady Raiders fought to extend the lead back to six points. Vivian Gray scored her first points of the night and six points in the quarter to help the Cowgirls stay within striking distance of the Lady Raiders. OSU held Texas Tech to just 4-of-11 shooting in the second quarter to cut the lead to 34-30 going into halftime.
After early success from three-point range, the Cowgirls scored 22 of their 30 first half points in the paint. de Sousa led the way for OSU in the first half with nine points, while Mack led the team with seven rebounds.
The second half would be a crucial turning point for the Cowgirls. Clitan de Sousa continued her impressive night by scoring the Cowgirls' first seven points coming out of the half, bringing the game back within two. As the halfway point of the third quarter approached, Mack hit a couple of shots to give the Cowgirls the lead for the first time since the opening quarter.
A quick Lady Raider basket tied the game briefly before the Cowgirls took control once again. Holding Texas Tech scoreless for the last 3:46 of the quarter allowed the Cowgirls to take a 55-47 lead into the final 10 minutes.
OSU found their way to the free throw line early in the final quarter to hold a steady lead. Momentum fully shifted to the side of the Cowgirls after Vivian Gray knocked down a deep three to give the Cowgirls a 12-point lead. The Cowgirls kept the pressure on, extending their lead to as many as 16 points in the final quarter, holding the Lady Raiders to just 11 points in the last 10 minutes to secure the win.
Natasha Mack led the way for the Cowgirls with 26 points, while Clitan de Sousa contributed career-highs with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Vivian Gray also added 13 points, her 52nd consecutive game in double figures, and a career-high tying nine assists.
The Cowgirls return to the court Saturday, February 29 as they travel to Kansas to take on the Jayhawks at 5 p.m.
