Cowgirl Equestrian Defeats No. 8 Texas A&M 10-7

STILLWATER- The No. 2 Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated No. 8 Texas A&M, 10-7, Saturday for its second consecutive win, highlighted by a great performance in Flat to pull away for the win.Â
"I am so proud of the grit that our team showed today," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "They rallied back, after being down at the half, and showed the fight that it takes to win a close competition. Texas A&M is a very good team and had some very good rides today. They will be competitive at their Conference and the National Championship. "Â
The Cowgirls began the meet dropping Fences by a score of 3-2. Freshman Sydney North picked up her sixth win on the season with a season-high score of 88. Team captain Abigail Brayman earned the other point for the Cowgirls with an 86-50 win over Texas A&M's Caroline Passarelli. Emma Pacyna also set a new career-best but lost to A&M's Kaitlyn Lovingfoss by a score of 82-89.Â
No separation was made during Horsemanship, where three ties occurred. JoJo Roberson started off the event tieing Katie Conklin at 75.5. Harley Huff and Emma Verplank also tied their respective opponents. Texas A&M stole a point when Cameron Crenwelge narrowly defeated Sydnee Gemar 76-73.5. Cassidy Watters scored a point for the Cowgirls in a 74-71.5 victory over Alex Albright. The event ended 1-1 with both teams scores adding to 375.5 in the event. Â
The Cowgirls tied up the team score with a 3-2 win in the Reining event. Hannah Mitchell picked up a 72.5-70.5 win over Texas A&M's Emmy-Lu Marsh. Mitchell's 72.5 was the high score for the event, which earned her MOP honors and improved her record to 7-3-1 on the season. Hannah Lovrien earned another point for the Cowgirls with a 71.5-69.5 victory, while Kristi Wiggins got back in the win column with a 68.5-63.5 win.Â
The Cowgirls pulled away for the win after dominating Flat. The Cowgirls won four out of five matches. Katie Schell started off the event defeating Rhian Murphy 55-50, followed by teammate Hannah Coleman lighting up the scoreboard with a 71 giving the Cowgirls a point. Abigail Brayman picked up a much-needed point defeating Kaitlyn Lovingfoss 66-63. Katie Pelzel picked up built on her momentum from last weekend picking up another win 65-61 over Caroline Dance.Â
The Cowgirls head into a bye week but will be back in action Saturday, March 7 when they travel to Waco to compete against Baylor in a Big 12 matchup.
