The No. 2 Cowgirls defeat No. 6 TCU

STILLWATER- The No. 2 Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated No. 6 TCU, 14-5, Saturday in the home opener of the spring season.
"Today was a great day," coach Larry Sanchez said. "The girls rode like we see them ride every day in practice, with confidence and supporting each other as a team. We will continue to work hard to prepare for the upcoming meets."
The meet started with Fences, which the Cowgirls took 4-1 from the Horned Frogs. Sydnie Ziegler earned MOP honors after posting an event-high score in her 86-83 win over TCU's Misty Redd. Sydney North picked up an 84-74 win to improve her season record to 5-3-1. Freshman Emma Pacyna earned her first win as a Cowgirl with a 76-71 win over Raegan Rast, while team captain Abigail Brayman closed out the event with an 82-73 victory to move to 5-5 on the year in Fences.
The Cowgirls carried their momentum from Fences to Horsemanship, as OSU picked up wins on several close rides to win the event 3-1. Sydnee Gemar defeated Josie Mootz 75.5-74.5, while Harley Huff defeated Mattie Dukes 76.5-75.5 to earn her third MOP honors of the year and her fifth straight win. Emma Verplank narrowly defeated Anna Hauter 72-71.5 to move to 8-1-1 on the season. Jojo Roberson scored a 73 which tied TCU's Jamie Cook resulting in no point. TCU's Drew Rogers narrowly defeated Cassidy Waters for the Frog's only win of Horsemanship.
Oklahoma State opened the second half of the meet by dominating Flat 4-1. Abigail Brayman received the first point of the event with a convincing 78-71 victory over Wynne Weatherly. Hannah Coleman defeated Raegan Rast 80-77 after a re-ride. Katie Pelzel picked up MOP honors and her second consecutive win by a score of 79-78. Hannah Janson won 78-74 and secured the final point of the event.
The Cowgirls closed out the meet by taking Reining, 3-2. Hannah Mitchell received MOP honors for the third time this season with a 74.5-67.5 win over TCU's Skylar Smith. With the victory, Mitchell moves to 6-3-1 on the season and remains undefeated at Totusek Arena. Hannah Lovrien tied her high-score for the year in her 72-70 win against Bella Andrews. The last rider of the day, freshman Molly Mitchell, picked up a win and a career-high score of 70 in her narrow win over Elena Hurd.
The Cowgirls will be back in action at home on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. to host No. 8 Texas A&M.
