Cowboy Basketball Opening 2020-21 Season At UTA On Nov. 25

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's basketball team will begin the 2020-21 season with a homecoming for Cade Cunningham and Isaac Likekele thanks to a matchup at UT Arlington on Nov. 25.
Likekele and Cunningham grew up in the shadow of UTA's campus in Arlington, Texas, and are expected to lead an OSU squad that won eight of its last 11 games to end the 2020 season.
Headlined by Cunningham – the nation's top recruit – Oklahoma State boasts the nation's No. 4 ranked signing class, which also includes ESPN Top-100 guard Rondel Walker, who teamed up with Cunningham and fellow Arlington native Montreal Pena on the Texas Titans AAU squad, as well as two-time Canadian national player of the year Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe.
The newcomers join a core of sophomores that arrived in Stillwater with a top-25 class ranking of their own. Kalib and Keylan Boone are expected to step into larger roles for the Cowboys, as are Avery Anderson III and Chris Harris Jr.
This will mark the thirteenth meeting between Oklahoma State and UT Arlington. The Pokes are 11-1 in the series and 3-1 when playing the Mavericks on the road. In their last meeting on December 19, 2012, the No. 24 Cowboys handled UT Arlington in a 69-44 win in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Mavericks, who are led by longtime Texas and Texas Tech assistant coach Chris Ogden, took on the nation's No. 8 non-conference schedule last season, and tallied 14 wins thanks to the play of All-Sun Belt and NABC All-District guard David Azore. The 6-4 junior led the Mavs in scoring (14.0 ppg), steals (1.0 spg) and assists (3.7 apg).
The game at UT Arlington will air on the ESPN family of networks, but the tip-off time and network designation will be released at a later date.
UTA Athletics officials are planning to allow a limited amount of fans – approximately 500 in total – at all home basketball games this year, and protocol details are still being finalized by department and Sun Belt Conference officials. Information regarding ticket sales and attendance procedures for this game will be released in the coming weeks.
The game is part of a 2-for-1 home-and-home series between UTA and Oklahoma State. The Mavs will travel to Stillwater to play the Cowboys in each of the next two seasons: 2021-22 and 2022-23.
