Cowgirl Tennis Ends Tournament Play At USTA Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. - Cowgirl tennis standouts Alana Wolfberg, Catherine Gulihur, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Dariya Detkovskaya all traveled to Orlando, Fla. over the weekend to compete in USTA Orlando Invitational, and each completed play on Sunday.
Wolfberg and Gulihur teamed up in doubles play but dropped their only match of the day to the No. 1 team in the country, McCartney Kessler and Victoria Emma out of the University of Florida, 7-6(3). Thamchaiwat and Detkovskaya would take down the University of Tennessee pairing of Johanna Silva and Rebeka Mertena to win their doubles flight, 6-1.
All four Cowgirls would compete in singles play as well on Sunday, but only Wolfberg would come out victorious as she defeated UCF's Domenika Turkovic, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(6). Thamchaiwat was forced to retire her match to Mertena due to injury and finished trailing 6-3 in the first and only set. Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State defeated Gulihur in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4). Finally, Detkovskaya fell to Florida's Victoria Emma, 6-2, 6-1.
The Cowgirl tennis team will resume play at the Norman $15K Pro Circuit on Monday, September 30.
