NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team fired an 8-under 276 during the first round of action at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational on Sunday to stand alone in second place at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
The Cowboys finished the day six shots behind Oklahoma at the par-71, 6,997-yard layout and two shots clear of Texas and Clemson.
OSU used a strong finish to its day to move up the leaderboard with the starting five combining to tally seven birdies and an eagle against just one bogey over its final three holes.
A pair of Cowboys finished the day inside the top 10 with sophomore Aman Gupta and freshman Brian Stark each posting 3-under 68s to finish tied for eighth place.
Gupta made the turn in 1-under 34 after posting birdies on two of the final four holes on the outward nine. He came home in 2-under 34 after logging birdies on two of his final three holes of the day.
Starting on the back nine, Stark birdied the 11th before carding his lone bogey of the day at the 12th. He posted a birdie at the 18th to turn in 1-under. Stark strung together six pars in a row to start his second nine before adding birdies at the seventh and eighth to get to his 3-under total.
Finishing a shot behind his teammates was senior Ferdinand Müller, who turned in a 2-under 69 to finish tied for 19th place.
Sophomore Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and junior Austin Eckroat wrapped up the day tied for 30th place after signing for even-par 71s.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 9:40 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Oklahoma and Texas. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
