NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma State battled Bedlam-rival Oklahoma to a 2-2 tie in double overtime Thursday night at John Crain Field.
Jaci Jones scored both goals for OSU, which is now 1-0-1 on the season, while Kaylee Dao countered with a brace for the Sooners (2-0-1).
OSU jumped out to the lead in the 26th minute as Jones beat her defender with some nifty moves before burying a low shot to the far post to put the Cowgirls up 1-0.
With OU pressuring for the equalizer in the second half, goalkeeper Dani Greenlee came up with several big plays to keep the Sooners off the scoreboard.
After spending the opening half on the sidelines, Greenlee took over in goal to begin the second half, thwarting an OU attempt by punching away a corner kick before making a save on a Dao header in the 64th minute.
OSU doubled its lead in the 65th minute when Jones raced down a ball into the box from Kim Rodriguez and sent it past OU keeper Nikki Panas to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 advantage. The goal was Jones' third of the season.
The Cowgirls could not hold the lead, however.
In the 76th minute, OSU was whistled for a hand ball in the box, and Dao converted the penalty kick to cut the Cowgirls' lead in half.
Clinging to the one-goal lead, OSU saw the Sooners tie the score with 3:32 remaining in regulation when Dao delivered a shot from the corner of the six-yard box to the far post to tie the score at 2-2.
In the overtime periods, the home team outshot OSU, 7-2, with Greenlee making her biggest save of the match in the first overtime when she dove to her left to deny a shot by Jordan Lund. Greenlee finished the night with a match-high five saves.
The Cowgirls will host Oral Roberts Sunday at Neal Patterson Stadium in their 2019 home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
