STILLWATER — Oklahoma State battled in-state foe Tulsa to a 2-2 tie in 90 minutes of preseason exhibition action Friday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.
Gabriella Coleman and Kim Rodriguez found the back of the net for the Cowgirls, who open the regular season Thursday at Lamar.
OSU controlled the attack throughout against the Golden Hurricane, outshooting the visitors by a 19-7 margin and tallying all seven corner kicks in the match. A physical Tulsa squad was whistled for 19 fouls and issued four yellow cards.
All four goals in the match were recorded in the second half, with both teams taking leads before surrendering equalizers.
Coleman put OSU on the board first in the contest. The junior forward, a transfer from Mississippi State, smacked one of her five shots in the match off the hands of TU goalie Jazmiera Ditter in the 49th minute but was there for the rebound, which she sent top shelf to the near post to put the Cowgirls up 1-0.
But TU tied the score in the 56th minute as Emilie Torres took a pass from Isold Runarsdottir and delivered a shot from the top of the 18-yard box to the far post past Dani Greenlee to make the score 1-1.
Less than 10 minutes later, TU took the lead as Kayla Fernandez sent another deep shot into the back of the net to put the Golden Hurricane up 2-1.
Battling from behind, OSU took advantage of a TU foul in the box in the 73rd minute. Rodriguez, who converted three penalty kicks last season, did so again as she drilled her attempt past Kay Jones to knot the score, 2-2.
OSU tallied four shots and three corner kicks over the final 13 minutes but could not find the back of the net again as the match ended in a deadlock.
