DFW Pipeline Produced 19 All-Big 12 Selections Since 2000 For Cowboy Basketball
May 03, 2019 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Marcus Smart, Jawun Evans, Phil Forte, Terrel Harris and Le'Bryan Nash are just a handful of the Oklahoma State basketball players to take the pipeline between the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Since 2000, 24 DFW-area Cowboys have suited up for OSU, and those players combined for 19 All-Big 12 Conference bids, three Big 12 Freshman of the Year awards, one Big 12 Player of the Year nod and four All-America selections.
The latest all-conference Cowboy from DFW is Cameron McGriff, who hails from Grand Prairie, Texas. McGriff led the Cowboys in scoring and rebounding in 2018-19 and is just 183 points shy of becoming the 42nd Cowboy to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Bursting onto the scene last season, Isaac Likekele proved a force as a freshman in the Big 12. The Arlington, Texas native started all 32 games and joined Smart as the only Cowboy freshmen to ever produce 120+ assists and 40+ steals. He was invited to participate in the USA Basketball U19 World Cup Training Camp this summer.
And the DFW pipeline is hardly slowing down, as Mike Boynton & Co., already have a pair of Metrolplex players signed for 2019-20.
Avery Anderson III recently earned his second straight Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State selection and district MVP award after leading Northwest High School in Justin, Texas. Anderson averaged 22.7 points per game last year in setting his school's career scoring record with 2,767 points.
Dallas native Chris Harris Jr. is the latest addition to the Cowboy family. Rivals.com awarded Harris a four-star ranking and named him the nation's No. 97 overall recruit after he poured in 18.6 points per game on 45.6 percent shooting in helping South Garland High School post a 30-7 record and a trip to the regional finals.
With Harris' addition, the OSU signing class is unanimously ranked among the nation's top 20. You won't want to miss a minute of the action in GIA, and Cowboy basketball season tickets will be on sale starting on May 20 at okstate.com/tickets.
