Cowboy Wrestling Begins U.S. Open with Greco Competition

LAS VEGAS–The 2019 Marine Corps U.S. Open began Thursday as Cowboy wrestler Austin Harris earned a runner-up finish in the junior Greco-Roman division and former Cowboy Chandler Rogers earned a spot in the consolation semifinals of the senior Greco-Roman division.
Harris went 2-2 on the day, defeating Aric Bohn, 10-0, in his first bout before upending Brad Wilton, 12-3. The wins propelled him to the finals, best-of-three contest with Nicholas Boykin. The Cowboy lost via fall in the first match and again, 10-0, in the second.
Coming off a solid outing at the Pan American Championships in Argentina, Rogers lost his first bout of the day to Jacob Fisher, 3-2, before rattling off four consecutive wins to land a match in the consolation semifinals. He outscored his opponents, 22-2, before picking up his final two wins via fall.
In all, Oklahoma State fielded three wrestlers for Greco competition. Bear Hughes dropped his first bout of the day to George Sikes, 5-0, before handling George Hooker, 14-5. In the next round, Hughes fell to Barrett Stanghill, 8-1.
