LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team closed out the regular season at Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Red Raiders, 4-2.
Â
With the win, the Cowgirls finished Big 12 play with an 8-1 record. It marks the sixth-consecutive season in which the Pokes have lost two or fewer conference matches.
Â
Katarina Stresnkova and Marina Guinart defeated Lana Rush and Olivia Peet, 6-2, in doubles to start the day. No. 24 tandem Catherine Gulihur and Sofia Blanco came out on top against Felicity Maltby and Neil Miller, 6-3, to lock up the doubles point for OSU.
Â
"I was proud of how the girls competed," OSU head coach Chris Young said. "We got off to a good start in doubles. I thought they brought really good energy and did the right things fundamentally. I thought they Texas Tech had a lot of energy being that it was their last home match, so I thought it was important to match that energy level."Â
Â
Singles play went back and forth between the two teams, with Tamara Arnold dropping her match to Lana Rush on court six, 2-6, 0-6. The Red Raiders crawled ahead in their only lead of the day when No. 40 Maltby won the point against No. 23 Stresnakova.Â
Â
Blanco evened the score for the Cowgirls, rallying past Peet, 6-3, 6-0. Lisa Marie Rioux put the Cowgirls back in front, dropping Nell Miller, 6-1, 6-4.Â
Â
To close out play on the road, No. 108 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat clinched the match for OSU, defeating Kennedy Bridgforth, 6-3, 6-3.Â
Â
"I think the girls have really bought into the changes they need to make to their games to make them better and I think that will make us a tough team in the postseason," Young said.Â
Â
The Cowgirls enter postseason play next weekend, as they travel to Lawrence for the Big 12 Tournament.Â
