Cowgirl Golf Trio Earns Academic All-Big 12 First Team Honors

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's Chih-Min Chen, Stephanie Astrup and Emma Whitaker were among the 28 women's golfers honored on the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
This marks eight straight years with multiple selections for OSU. Since the league formed in 1996-97, Cowgirl golfers have combined for 60 Academic All-Big 12 selections, including 18 in the last six years under head coach Courtney Jones.
Chen (Sr., Sports Management) is the 10th Cowgirl golfer to earn three career Academic All-Big 12 awards, and joined Kansas' Ariadna Fonseca-Diaz as the only honorees nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A three-time WGCA All-American Scholar, Chen is hoping to soon join Cowgirl legends Karin Kinnerud and Pernilla Lindberg as the only four-time All-American Scholars in program history.
This is the first career Academic All-Big 12 awards for Astrup (So., Psychology) and Whitaker (So., Business Management/Business Finance), who both became eligible for the honor this year.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
The Cowgirls will compete at Big 12 Championship starting Sunday, April 14 at the Golf Club of Oklahoma in Broken Arrow. OSU is the most successful team in the Big 12 era, with nine team titles and nine individual championships. The rest of the conference has nine Big 12 team championships and seven individual titles combined.
