Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
Last week, Oklahoma State took No. 11 Texas Tech and No. 15 Kansas to the brink, but came up a play short in both games. The Big 12's best 3-point shooting team, OSU was a combined 28-of-69 (.459) from deep in the two games. But, the road doesn't get any easier for the Cowboys (10-19, 3-12 Big 12), who must now travel to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor (19-10, 10-6 Big 12). The Bears are in fourth place in the standings and just two games off the Big 12 lead after falling at Kansas State on Saturday night. Baylor has won seven straight games over Oklahoma State, including a 73-69 nailbiter in Stillwater back on Jan. 14. The Bears are led by Yale grad transfer Makai Mason and sophomore forward Mario Kegler.
• On the Air
The matchup will air on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. Central. The crew of Clay Matvick and Tim Welsh will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at WatchESPN.com or the WatchESPN app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio Sirius 388.
• Cowboy Quick Hitters
• Oklahoma State has lost seven straight games to Baylor dating back to 2015, which is currently the program's longest losing streak to any opponent.
• Yor Anei has 64 blocks on the year, and needs just one more to tie OSU's all-time freshman blocks record, which was set by Byron Houston at 65 in 1988-89.
• Anei also 32 blocks in conference play. Only one other Cowboy has ever had more in Big 12 season - Andre Williams with 45 in 2003 and 39 in 2001.
• This year's OSU squad has already broken the program's single-game 3-point record with 17 at Texas Tech last week, and is racing up the single-season 3-point charts as well. The Cowboys rank 10th in OSU history with a 38.2 percent clip and 6th with 256 makes on the year.
• Splash Brothers
Lindy Waters and Thomas Dziagwa are shooting 46.3 and 44.4 percent from 3-point this year, respectively, which ranks third and fifth in program history. OSU joins Dartmouth as the only teams in the country with two players that average more than 1.9 3-point makes per game while also shooting 44.0 percent or better from deep. Waters ranks second in the Big 12, while Dziagwa ranks fourth in the conference and 15th in the country. Over the last five games, Waters and Dziagwa have combined to go 36-of-75 (.480) from deep.
• The Series With The Bears
This will be the 84th meeting between Oklahoma State and Baylor in a series that dates back to Feb. 7, 1918. The Cowboy lead the overall series, 54-29, although the Bears have won the last seven meetings overall and four of the last five in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Bears have won 11 of the last 12 meetings in Waco.
• Down To The Wire
While Baylor has taken the last seven meetings with Oklahoma State, the games typically come down to the wire regardless of location. Nine of the last 13 games between these two schools were decided by nine points or less, including eight two-possession ballgames and two in overtime. Even in Baylor's current seven game win streak over OSU the average margin of victory is just 8.4 points. Despite Baylor's top-10 ranking in 2016-17, both meetings that season were decided in the final minute.
