Yu Leading Cowgirls Into ASU/PING Invitational
March 28, 2019 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. — Taiwan doesn't seem as far away when there is a familiar face right around the corner.
Han-Hsuan Yu, a freshman from Taoyuan, Taiwan, joined the Cowgirl golf team in the spring semester of 2019. Before coming to Oklahoma State, Yu competed in over a dozen professional events, including the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic and the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open.
In her short time as a Cowgirl, Yu has accumulated a 73.92 stroke average and has finished in the top 10 of half of the tournaments she has competed in.
As for life outside of the golf course, Yu has been adjusting to life in Stillwater well.
"Stillwater is pretty nice," Yu said. "People told me Stillwater was going to be boring, but I have been enjoying it."
The transition into the Oklahoma lifestyle has been easier for Yu with the help of her teammate, Chih-Min Chen. The senior is from Taipei, Taiwan, and the two of them grew up playing golf together.
"I've known Chih Min for about seven years," Yu said. "Chih-Min has been helping me a lot. She's been helping me with school and meeting everyone."
Chen said Yu has been a fun and entertaining addition to the team.
"She is very funny," Chen said. "I think she's pretty shy when you first meet her, but once you know her she's not. She's very happy all the time and always positive."
Yu will get to see another familiar face this weekend when the Cowgirls travel to Arizona State to play in the ASU/PING Invitational.
Her brother, Chun-An Yu, is a golfer at Arizona State. They haven't seen each other since December, Yu said.
"We haven't gotten the chance to visit each other," Yu said. "It's going to be weird seeing him in the U.S. and not Taiwan. I'm excited for him to show me around the course."
The Cowgirls will take the field on Friday and will continue through Sunday. Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com and tournament updates will be available on Twitter @OSUcowgirlgolf.
