Cowgirls Run-Rule Baylor to Clinch Series
March 24, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
WACO, Texas – The No. 21 Oklahoma State softball team clinched its first Big 12 series win of the season Sunday, as the Cowgirls bested Baylor, 9-1, in five innings at Getterman Stadium.
OSU (23-9; 2-1 Big 12) has won six of its last seven conference series dating back to the start of the 2018 season.
"The most important thing is winning these series as we go along in conference play," coach Kenny Gajewski said. "I'm very happy about that. Our kids came out here with just a ton of energy right from the start. It's good to see (Rylee) Bayless have a day, and (Madi Sue) Montgomery and (Taylor) Lynch. They're kids that we haven't all had going good on the same day, but we had that here today."
Gajewski's team wasted no time jumping on its conference foe Sunday, as the Pokes put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Taylor Lynch supplied two of the runs with a first-pitch single to left field that scored both Samantha Show and Madi Sue Montgomery.
Lynch finished 2-for-3 at the plate against BU in the series finale, making her one of three Cowgirls to record multiple hits Sunday afternoon. Freshman Kiley Naomi and senior Rylee Bayless were the other two Pokes to do so, with Naomi going 2-for-2 with a walk, and Bayless going 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
It was Bayless' fifth career three-hit game as a Cowgirl, and her first of the 2019 campaign.
Oklahoma State continued to run up its tally against Baylor over the next four innings, as the Cowgirls scored two runs in the second, third and fifth innings to cap its nine-run output. Montgomery, Chyenne Factor and Sydney Pennington all also recorded an RBI in the series finale, bringing OSU's tally to five different players with an RBI Sunday.
Samantha Show handled the full load for the Cowgirls in the circle, allowing no earned runs and striking out four in five innings of work. It was Show's ninth complete game of the year, and in all of those outings she has not allowed more than two earned runs.
The Pokes will get back to work with the last of a 13-game road swing Wednesday night at Wichita State, but will then host top-10 Texas in a three-game series at Cowgirl Stadium next weekend. First pitch against the Shockers Wednesday night is set for 6 p.m. at Wilkins Stadium.
