Vivian Gray Receives All-Region Honors

ATLANTA — Oklahoma State's Vivian Gray was named a region finalist for NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America honors it was announced today by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The selection committee will choose the 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team from these 52 candidates.
Gray was one of eight players named from Region 3. With her selection, the 6-0 wing joins Andrea Riley (2008) as the only sophomores to earn the distinction among the 17 all-region selections in program history.
Earlier this year, Gray was named a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 pick as well as the league's newcomer of the year. She was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness Player of the Week on Feb. 11.
The Argyle, Texas native produced one of the most prolific offensive seasons in school history. Gray averaged 20.0 points per game, which ranks second among Big 12 players and 25th nationally. She became just the third OSU sophomore to average 20 points per outing and is just the second Cowgirl in program history to score 600 points as a sophomore. Gray's scoring average rose to 21.6 points per game in league play.
Additionally, her three 30-point outings are tied for first among Big 12 players and her 17 20-point outings were the second-best total among league players.
Gray finished the year with a team-best 36 blocked shots, the 15th-best single-season total in school history and the most ever by a Cowgirl wing player.
The selection committee uses an equation to determine an equitable number of nominees from each region. The number of NCAA Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of NCAA Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
The 2019 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team will be announced Thursday, April 4, during the WBCA Convention at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Florida.
