Anei Earns Newcomer Of The Week After Eight-Block Outing

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State center Yor Anei swatted 14 shots in a pair of Cowboy wins, which earned the freshman his first career Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award.
Anei sent back six shot in OSU's first win at Baylor since 2015 and followed it up with eight blocks in the victory over West Virginia. The eight blocks are tied for the second most in school history, are the most by a Big 12 player this year and the 15th most ever by a Big 12 player.
For the week, Anei averaged 15.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the floor. He's averaging 6.0 blocks per game over the last three outings, and ended the regular season as the league leader in blocks.
Only three players in Big 12 history ever led the league in blocked shots and didn't earn a spot on the all-defensive team.
This is the second weekly award for the Cowboys this season. Curtis Jones also took home Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors on Dec. 26 after posting 23 points and six rebounds on 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point in OSU's win over Central Arkansas.
Anei and the Cowboys will take on TCU in the Big 12 Championship opener on Wednesday. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPNU. OSU is 12-1 all-time in first-round conference tournament games.
