Cowgirls Earn First Road Win

HARRINGTON, Del. – The sixth-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated Delaware State, 10-5, Friday at the Delaware State Fairgrounds.
The win was OSU's (5-5) third in a row and first road win of the season.
After a two hour weather delay, the meet started with Equitation Over Fences. OSU split the event, 2-2. Sydnie Ziegler and Hannah Janson recorded points for the Cowgirls.
OSU's No. 2 Reining squad entered the arena next. Stephanie Helsen started the event by giving the Cowgirls a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. She defeated DSU's Grace Wilson, 70-68.5.
Team captain Hannah Mitchell followed suit, completing back-to-back points for the Cowgirls. Hunter De Jane closed out Reining with a 62.5-0 victory.
Leading 5-3 at the midway point, the teams transitioned to Equitation on the Flat and Horsemanship.
Ziegler collected her second point of the day with an 83-71 victory against Gabrielle Fournier in Flat, tying her season-high in the process.
Team captain Sarah Miller set her season-high in Horsemanship after a 76.5-73 decision. Harley Huff also tied her season-high en route to a 77-69.5 victory.
The Flat team won, 3-1 while Horsemanship took a 2-1 advantage.
OSU's Horsemanship team has won their past five events.
Oklahoma State also started its meet against South Dakota State today. The teams split both Fences and Horsemanship, 2-2.
The Cowgirls will finish up their meet against South Dakota State tomorrow at the Delaware State Fairgrounds. They're currently tied, 4-4, with Flat and Reining remaining.
