PALOS VERDES, Calif. — Thanks to the push of a trio of new teammates - Han-Hsuan Yu, Sara Camarena and Lianna Bailey - the Oklahoma State women's golf team tied for fifth in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, beating nine ranked teams.
The Cowgirls scored 6-over 290 for the day and 32-over 884 for the tournament. Three of the nine teams the Cowgirls out-paced were top-10 teams.
Yu, a freshman, earned a fourth-place finish after carding an even-par 71 final round to finish 3-over 216 for the tournament at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
The freshman newcomers continued to lead the Cowgirls as Camarena and Bailey both shot 1-over 72 for the day.
Camarena was one of only four golfers to hit an eagle during the tournament, and she had eight birdies. She finished 10-over 223 and tied for 26th. Bailey was one stroke behind her, finishing 11-over 224 and tied for 31st. She had 7 birdies.
Senior Chih-Min Chen finished 15-over 228, while sophomore Emma Whitaker finished the tournament 20-over 223.
The Cowgirls will tee-off again on Feb. 17 at the All-State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans, Louisiana.
