• The Basics
A shorthanded Oklahoma State (10-17, 3-11 Big 12) squad was handed its biggest loss in seven years at league-leaders Kansas State on Saturday, but the road doesn't get any easier for a Cowboys team in the midst of its toughest stretch of the 2018-19 schedule. OSU will now head to Lubbock to take on No. 11/11 Texas Tech (22-5, 10-4 Big 12), which is also challenging for the Big 12 title after handing Kansas a 91-62 loss - the Jayhawks' largest defeat in a Big 12 game since 2000. The Red Raiders feature arguably the nation's best defense, which is ranked No. 1 in defensive efficiency by KenPom. TTU is led by local star Jarrett Culver, who is leading the Red Raiders in scoring (18.0), rebounding (6.1) and assists (3.7).
• On the Air
The matchup will air on ESPNU at 6 p.m. Central. The crew of Clay Matvick and Tim Welsh will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at ESPN3.com or via the WatchESPN app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio XM 381.
• Cowboy Quick Hitters
• The Cowboys lead the Big 12 in 3-point percentage with a clip of 37.4, and their 228 makes from deep already rank 11th in school history for a single season. If the Cowboys make their average of 8.4 per game they can expect to move into the top five by the end of the regular season.
• The 39-point loss at K-State tied for the fourth largest margin of defeat in school history, and the second largest in the Big 12 era after a 41-point loss at Baylor in 2012.
• Yor Anei has 15 blocks in the last five games (3.0 per game) and is inching closer to the OSU freshman record. At 59 on the year, Anei only needs six more blocks to tie Byron Houston's freshman record of 65 blocks in 1988-89.
• The Series With Texas Tech
Oklahoma State has taken three of the last five games against Texas Tech, and leads the overall series, 44-21. The Cowboys own a 23-5 mark against the Red Raiders in Stillwater, including wins in 14 of the last 16 meetings, with the only loss coming in 2016. In Lubbock, the Red Raiders have the edge in the series, 13-10, including wins in four of the last five matchups. The Cowboys and Red Raiders began their series in 1937 with a 38-19 win for Mr. Henry Iba's Aggies in Oklahoma City.
• Suttons Well Represented
Former Oklahoma State player (1990-92), assistant coach (1993-06) and head coach (2006-08) Sean Sutton joined the Texas Tech staff as an advisor to head coach Chris Beard in 2017. In 15 seasons in all capacities in Stillwater the Cowboys racked up 11 seasons of 20 or more wins during Sutton's time, including a 39-29 mark as the OSU head coach. Sutton spent six seasons with his brother, Scott Sutton, at Oral Roberts. Scott joined Mike Boynton's coaching staff prior to the 2017-18 season.
• Scouting The Red Raiders
The Red Raiders are coming off a 91-62 blowout of Kansas that has them just a game back of Kansas State in the Big 12 standings. Texas Tech boasts arguably the nation's top defensive unit. TTU ranks just behind national leader Virginia in scoring defense, and KenPom ranks them No. 1 nationally in defensive efficiency. On the perimeter, the Red Raiders are holding opponents to 28.2 percent from 3-point, which ranks fourth overall.
