STILLWATER — After high school in Leicester, England, Lianna Bailey spent three years away from school playing in amateur circuits around Europe, and after arriving at Karsten Creek in August, spent another six months in Stillwater gaining her NCAA eligibility.
But on Sunday, Bailey finally gets the chance to suit up for the Cowgirl golf team as a 22-year old freshman at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
"I am really excited." said Bailey. "I mean, it's been a long time waiting, but it's finally here."
Bailey arrived in the fall and became eligible to compete with the Cowgirls for the first time this spring. Being away from home, Bailey has enjoyed getting to live in Stillwater and having new experiences with her teammates.
"It's been nice to have a bit more flavor of different personalities and people from different countries," she said. "We're so diverse anyway with personalities and we're all from all over the world. So, it's been great just to add to that."
Although Bailey is in her freshman year with the Cowgirls, she is one of the oldest members on the team. Despite their age difference Bailey looks up to senior Chih-Min Chen.
"I look up to Min, because she is a senior even though she is younger than me," Bailey said. "I just try and be there for my teammates. If they need to chat then I'm there and if they need help then I want to help but we're kind of all there for each other in different ways"
