Vocel, Kellovsky Take Doubles Championship at ITA Fall Nationals

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – No. 18 Matej Vocel and Dominik Kellovsky completed their run in doubles play of the 2019 ITA National Fall Championships with a win in the finals of the tournament on Sunday in Newport Beach, Calif.
"Dominik [Kellovsky] and Matej [Vocel] played well all week together and battled through some adversity, especially in the first round and in the finals," said Associate Head Coach Scoville Jenkins. "I'm really proud of how they played together. They deserve to be national champions."
Vocel and Kellovsky entered the tournament as the second-seeded doubles team and have been competing in the tournament since Wednesday. The final match of the tournament came against the eighth-seeded pairing out of Ohio State, John McNally and Robert Cash. It would take three sets to take the victory over the Buckeyes as the Cowboys won, 6-4, 1-6, 10-4.
The Cowboy pairing started the tournament with a win over No. 50 Andrew Fenty and Mattias Siimar of Michigan, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. That duo would go on to win the consolation bracket of the tournament on Sunday over Iowa's Oliver Okonkwo and Will Davies, 6-1, 6-1. In the second round, Vocel and Kellovsky defeated No. 47 Francois Musitelli and Jannik Giesse of Old Dominion, 7-5, 6-4.
The quarterfinals resulted in a win due to a walkover from the team out of Texas, No. 17 Yuya Ito and Christan Sigsgaard. In the semifinals, OSU faced off against the sixth-seeded pairing from Miami, Franco Aubone and Benjamin Hannestad, 6-0, 6-2.
This marks the second doubles championship the duo of Vocel and Kellovsky has claimed this fall after winning the Arkansas Futures event together in September. Oklahoma State men's tennis will now be off until Jan. 17 when the spring season starts against Lamar and Bryant in Stillwater, Okla.
