Cowboy Tennis Kicks Off ITA Regional Championship Play

NORMAN, Okla. – The men's ITA Regional Championships began play on Thursday in Norman, Okla. and featured two doubles teams from Oklahoma State on the opening day.
Luke Hammond and Emile Hudd got the tournament started for the Cowboys after receiving a first-round bye. In the second round, the Cowboy duo defeated Marcello Moreira and Andre Russo of Oral Roberts, 8-4. The other OSU doubles team of Mathieu Scaglia and Brady Draheim also received a first-round bye, but lost its match to Sebastian Vile and Daniel Martin of Minnesota, 8-7(8).
The third round of doubles will take place on Friday for Hudd and Hammond as they take on Evan Fragistas and Luka Jankovic from Drake University.
Singles play will begin Friday for OSU with each Cowboy receiving a first-round bye. Scaglia will play the winner of Freddie Powell of Drake and Tom Kruse of UMKC in the second round. Hudd will face either Matt Hulme of Nebraska or Luke Moorehead of Creighton. Draheim will take on the winner of Finley Hall of Drake and Jason Kerst of Iowa in his second-round match.
Hammond will also take part in the singles portion of the tournament and will face the winner of Luka Jankovic of Drake and Hugo Piles of Nebraska. Dominik Kellovsky and his opponent, Nikita Snezhko of Iowa, received a first-round bye and will face off in the second round. Kellovsky is also competing in the Arkansas Futures event this week, and if he advances to the quarterfinals, he will not compete in the Regional Championships on Friday.
