Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
A career performance from Lindy Waters and potent defense helped Oklahoma State earn its first Big 12 win of the season, 61-58, over Texas. Waters was 5-of-5 from beyond the arc for a career-high 19 points on the same night he joined the program's top-25 for career 3-point makes. The Cowboys held the Longhorns to 2-of-22 (.091) shooting from 3-point, and now rank third in the Big 12 in field goal percentage defense and second in 3-point field goal defense in league play. Now the Cowboys travel to Morgantown to face West Virginia. OSU is the only Big 12 team to own a winning record in Morgantown and the only team to have won in its last two visits to WVU Coliseum.
• On the Air
The matchup will air on ESPNU at 11 a.m. Central. Jay Alter and Bryndon Manzer will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at ESPN3 or via the WatchESPN app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio XM 386.
• Waters Making It Rain
Lindy Waters knocked down all five of his 3-point shots for a career-high 19 points in the win over Texas, and vaulted himself into the program's top 25 for career 3-point makes. The junior's five 3-pointers are a career best, and his 5-of-5 performance is tied for the second most makes on a perfect shooting game in school history. The fifth make was Waters' 100th in a Cowboy uniform, which moved him into a tie for 24th in school history, and his 40.2 percent clip from 3-point ranks 11th in OSU history. Waters and fellow juniors Thomas Dziagwa and Cameron McGriff are on pace to become one of the most prolific sharpshooting classes OSU has ever seen. The trio is already responsible for 263 3-pointers on 39.3 percent shooting.
• Defense-First Approach
OSU employs a high-pressure, up-the-line defense that speeds up opponents and makes it difficult for them to run their sets, and the Cowboys have been their best in Big 12 play. OSU has held its conference opponents to 38.1 percent shooting, which ranks third in the Big 12, and a 23.8 percent clip from 3-point, which ranks second. The Cowboys limited Iowa State to 36.4 percent shooting, Oklahoma to 36.2 percent from the floor and Texas to 2-of-22 (.091) shooting from 3-point - all season lows for those opponents.
• The Series With The Mountaineers
This will be the 14th meeting in the overall series between Oklahoma State and West Virginia, and the Mountaineers hold a slim 7-6 edge. Oddly enough, the Cowboys have won the last two meetings in Morgantown and the Mountaineers have won the last four matchups in Stillwater, which is currently the longest win streak in Gallagher-Iba Arena by any team.
• Morgantown Success
Oklahoma State is the only team to win in its last two trips to WVU Coliseum and is the only Big 12 squad to have a winning record in Morgantown. The Cowboys own a 4-2 edge in Morgantown, which is just ahead of Baylor's 3-3 mark. OSU junior Cameron McGriff is coming off a 20-point, 9-rebound performance in his last visit to WVU Coliseum, and is averaging 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 50.0 percent shooting in that building. Lindy Waters is averaging 8.0 points on 6-of-7 shooting (.857) in his two visits to Morgantown.
• WVU Snapshot
Kansas State overcame a 21-point deficit to stun West Virginia and drop the Mountaineers to 0-3 in Big 12 play, which is a first by WVU since joining the league in 2012-13. The Mountaineers lead the league in rebounding margin at +7.3 and offensive rebounds with 14.6 per game, but are -3.1 in turnover margin, which ranks 10th in the Big 12. WVU is without the services of Sagaba Konate, who led the team with 13.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
