LAWRENCE, Kan. – Oklahoma State continued its winning ways Sunday at Rock Chalk Park as the 15th-ranked Cowgirls bested No. 24 Kansas, 2-1, at Rock Chalk Park.
The win was the seventh in a row for OSU, marking the longest winning streak by the Cowgirls since they opened the 2011 season with 15-straight victories, as it improved to 10-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Big 12 Conference play.
Despite being outshot 21-6 in the match, the OSU defense turned in a huge effort, keeping KU off the board until very late in the match, and the Cowgirls took advantage of opportunities as their top-two scorers, Haley Woodard and Marlo Zoller, found the back of the net.
After a scoreless opening half during which OSU managed only two shots, the Cowgirls quickly struck first after intermission.
Woodard stole the ball from a KU player near midfield and took several dribbles to set up a one-on-one opportunity with KU goalie Sarah Peters. Woodard would win the showdown as she chipped a 25-yard shot over the charging Peters for her fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 OSU lead at the 47:29 mark.
OSU doubled its lead in the 67th minute as it continued to be effective off set plays. On a free kick, Kim Rodriguez delivered a ball that bounced deep in the box, and Zoller raced in to head it past Peters to put the Cowgirls up 2-0. The goal marked Zoller's team-high sixth of the season.
Hannah Warner played the second half in goal for the Cowgirls and posted three saves, including leaping to knock away a shot by Grace Wiltgen in the 85th minute to keep Kansas off the board.
The Jayhawks (7-2-2, 1-1-0) would avoid the shutout when Grace Hagan headed in a corner kick with 13 seconds remaining, but it was too little too late for KU.
OSU returns to action Friday for its Big 12 home opener when the Cowgirls host nationally-ranked Texas at Neal Patterson Stadium.
