Weather Stalls First Day at Cajun Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. – Despite a lightening delay, Cowboy junior Mathieu Scaglia and sophomore Maxim Tybar combined for three singles victories Friday at the Louisiana John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic.

In the first round of the tournament, Scaglia defeated Malik Bhatnagar of LSU, 7-6 (5), 6-4, while sophomore Maxim Tybar fell to Rice's Sumit Sarkar, 6-2, 6-4.

In the second round of the winner's bracket, Scaglia defeated Eric Rutledge of Rice, 7-6 (4), 6-0. Tybar bested Jan Galka of Louisiana, 6-2, 6-2, in the consolation bracket.

Doubles play was cancelled due to the weather delay, but will commence Saturday after singles play is concluded. Scaglia and Tybar are still scheduled to face Bhatnagar and Shane Monroe from LSU in doubles.

Scaglia is set to face Texas Tech's Artem Kapshuk in the semifinals of the winner's bracket at 11 a.m., Saturday. Tybar will take on TTU's Ilgiz Valiev in the second round of the consolation bracket at 9 a.m.
