September 13, 2018 | Cowboy Tennis
Arjun Kadhe's legendary Oklahoma State career has led him to new heights at the professional level.
Â
Kadhe was recently nominated to be on the Indian Davis Cup team. He is accepting the challenge of representing his country in tennis' version of the World Cup.
"It's the greatest honor for any athlete to be able to represent your country," Kadhe said. "I want to make sure I can enjoy the atmosphere and experience too."Â
Â
Kadhe played four years for the Cowboys and is the most decorated doubles player in OSU history.
Â
Kadhe said that it was his time at OSU that was a springboard to his success at the professional level.
Â
"College helped me a lot," Kadhe said. "I used college tennis as a platform to get better; the competition, trainers and facilities played a big part in doing well right after college."
Â
Kadhe is the first Cowboy to be a four-year All-American in doubles, and also ranks first in doubles wins in a season at OSU with 38.
 Â
Additionally, Kadhe ranks first in career doubles wins (105) and eighth in career singles wins (72). At 177 total victories across singles and doubles, Kadhe is the second-winningest Cowboy of the Big 12 Era (1997-Present).
"The facilities, the staff, trainers, it's not only one person," "Kadhe said. "A professional athlete can be born if the program is in place. Thanks to Jay and all the other coaches, they were very supportive for me and gave me the opportunity to play."
Â
The Pune, India native's historic resume also includes a No. 1 doubles ranking, two Pacific Coast Doubles Championship titles, an ITA Central Regional crown, three All-Big 12 selections and three First-Team Academic All-Big 12 honors.
Coach Jay Udwadia was instrumental in Kadhe's development. Kadhe said that no matter what time of the day or night, Udwadia would be willing to help him get better.
Â
But off the court, Kadhe said that he and Jay would have a fun time together.Â
Â
"Our relationship on the tennis court was professional, but off the court we were more like friends," Kadhe said.
Â
The OSU tennis program is what Kadhe believes put him in the position to compete at the Davis Cup. The Indian team will compete against Serbia this weekend at the Kraljevo Sports Venue in Kraljevo, Serbia.
Â
The top five positions on a team compete at the Davis Cup and for now, Kadhe is listed at the sixth spot. But he said he is still extremely excited to be at the Davis Cup so soon after graduating college.
Â
"The program is fabulous at OSU," Kadhe said. "I had a lot of fun playing there, that's the biggest reason I think I did well."
