Euro Trip Helped Cowboys Make Strides On And Off Court

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State basketball team put the wraps on a 10-day European tour that featured a pair of wins and countless sightseeing and teambuilding opportunities.
Giving the players a trip of a lifetime was the goal of the tour, however the Cowboys made strides on the court as well. On top of the two victories, OSU scored 75.7 points and handed out 16.7 assists per game while seven players averaged at least 8.0 points.
The games gave head coach Mike Boynton the opportunity to see his eight new Cowboys in action, and freshman Isaac Likekele took full advantage. He poured in 10.7 points on 48.3 percent shooting, grabbed 5.7 rebounds and dished out 2.7 assists per game.
Graduate transfer Mike Cunningham led the Cowboys with 3.3 assists per game and also grabbed 3.3 rebounds per outing. Kentrevious Jones came alive in the second and third games to average 6.7 per game on 75 percent shooting for the trip.
Boynton frequently mixed up his lineups and thrust players into unfamiliar roles, including putting 6-9 freshmen Maurice Calloo and Duncan Demuth at the point. It wasn't unusual to see five newcomers on the court at the same time for the Cowboys.
The veterans also came to play in Europe. Sharpshooter Thomas Dziagwa was second on the team with 10.3 points per game, and also averaged 2.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Lindy Waters scored 9.3 points per game on 57.1 percent shooting, while Cameron McGriff led the team with 7.3 rebounds per game.
With school starting on Aug. 20, the Cowboys will take some time off to get acquainted with their classes before starting their offseason program in the coming weeks. The season opener is slated for Nov. 10 at Charlotte, with the home opener on Nov. 14 against UTSA.
