Whitaker Wins Kansas Amateur Championship, Prairie Invitational

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State golfer and Wichita native Emma Whitaker won the Kansas Women's Amateur title and the Prairie Invitational championship at the Indian Hills Country Club.
Whitaker carded rounds of 73-77-74 (+14) 224 to win the Kansas Women's Amateur by two strokes. The sophomore then bested former Missouri and LPGA standout Kristen Samp in a playoff to win the Prairie Invitational.
"This was such an amazing experience," said Whitaker. "The ultimate goal for every women's golfer is to play on the LPGA Tour, but I have so much to learn before then. It's experiences like these that help me take those steps. Playing against pros, great amateurs and players that I've played against for years made this all the more fun. This was a great way to wrap up a summer of hard work and it will really propel me into the fall."
Whitaker became the fourth Cowgirl in the last two seasons to win a state title, joining Kenzie Neisen (2017 Minnesota Women's State Open), Alexis Sadeghy (2017 Women's Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship & WOGA Stroke Play Championship) and Maddie McCrary (2017 Women's Texas Golf Association State Amateur Championship).
