Cowboy To Face Minnesota In U.S. Bank Stadium Classic
July 24, 2018 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State basketball team will face Minnesota on Nov. 30 as a part of the first basketball event ever held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
U.S. Bank Stadium, which is the home of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings, hosted Super Bowl LII in February and is just 2.9 miles from Minnesota's home venue, Williams Arena. Opened in 2016, U.S. Bank Stadium will also host the 2019 NCAA Final Four on April 6-8.
The Golden Gophers are slated to make a return trip to Oklahoma in 2019 to face the Cowboys at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Tip time and broadcast information for both games will be announced at a later date.
The matchup against Minnesota is a part of a four-game U.S. Bank Stadium Basketball Classic that will also feature North Dakota State against Drake, South Dakota State against Northern Iowa and St. Thomas against Wisconsin-River Falls.
Tickets for the U.S. Bank Stadium Basketball Classic go on sale Friday, August 10 at 10 a.m. and are available for two-day or single-day packages. All tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.
The series between the Cowboys and Golden Gophers is tied, 3-3, after OSU won a thriller, 62-60, at the Samford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 2015. Oklahoma State has won three of the last four matchups with Minnesota, although the Cowboys are 0-3 against the Gophers in Minneapolis.
Minnesota returns three starters from last year's team including three-time All-Big Ten forward Jordan Murphy, who led the nation in double-doubles last year with 24. The Gophers will welcome four newcomers to the court this season including a trio of highly-regarded local prospects in guard Gabe Kalscheur, forward Jarvis Omersa and center Daniel Oturu, who all hail from the Twin Cities metro area.
A pair of Cowboy transfers already have experience against Minnesota. Mike Cunningham, a graduate transfer from USC-Upstate, started for the Spartans and scored 13 points in a 92-77 loss at Williams Arena last season, while Indiana transfer Curtis Jones saw action against the Golden Gophers in 2016-17 prior to signing with the Cowboy.
The Cowboys are coming off a 21-15 campaign under Mike Boynton that included six wins over top-25 opponents, including a school-record four wins over top-10 squads. OSU became the first team since 2003 to earn a regular-season sweep over Kansas, and had four victories over teams in the 2018 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
Cowboy basketball season tickets start at just $150 for 2018-19. For more information or to get your tickets today call 877-ALL-4-OSU or visit okstate.com/tickets.
