July 23, 2018 | Cowgirl Basketball
IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will face Tennessee as part of the 2018 SEC/Big12 Women's Challenge it was announced today. The Lady Vols will pay their first-ever visit to Stillwater on Sunday, Dec. 2.
The Cowgirls met 12th-ranked Tennessee last November as part of the Cancun Women's Challenge with the Lady Vols prevailing, 79-69. The two teams have met on one other occasion with Tennessee claiming a 69-60 win at the 1992 Rainbow Wahine Classic.
Every team from the Big 12 will participate, while 10 teams from the SEC will take part. The format features five home games on campus sites for each conference per year. Teams do not face the same opponent twice.
The Inaugural challenge was held in 2014. The 10-team format began in 2016. Last season, the two conferences split the challenge with a 5-5 mark.
"The Big 12/SEC Challenge has been extremely successful since its inception in 2014," Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said. "These matchups provide high-quality opponents prior to the start of Big 12 play and are a great showcase for both conferences."
Two years ago, the Cowgirls defeated Georgia, 71-51, in Stillwater. Head coach Jim Littell's squad lost to No. 6 Mississippi State, 79-76, last season in Starkville.
