Ferrante Named Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year
April 09, 2018 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State track and field senior Stephanie Ferrante was named the Oklahoma State Female Student-Athlete of the Year, the university announced on Monday.
Ferrante, a biochemistry and microbiology/cell and molecular biology double major, is set to earn her diploma in May with a 4.0 GPA.
She's no stranger to academic success, as she has been honored on the First Team Academic All-Big 12 Team for track and field in 2016 and 2017, as well as the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in 2015 and 2017.
On the track, Ferrante has been a standout teammate in the relays, earning six total All-Big 12 honors. She also played a vital role in winning two Big 12 Championships for the distance medley relay team in 2015 and 2017.
So far in 2018, Ferrante has added to her impressive All-Big 12 accolade list, earning her seventh nod at the indoor Big 12 Championships when she took sixth in the 800 meters.
"More than anything, she's a nose-to-the-grindstone type of student and athlete," head coach Dave Smith said of Ferrante. "Most of her success on and off the track comes from her hard work. Her work ethic and grittiness are characteristics we want our whole team to emulate."
Ferrante is the third Cowgirl from the OSU cross country and track and field program to take home the prestigious honor, joining Valentina Medina and All-American Natalja Piliusina, who took home the honors in 2005 and 2013, respectively.
